Before the dawn of the new millenium, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 1999 as the "International Year of the Older Persons." The U.S. Government has projected that the number of elderly in America will double in the first two decades of the 21st century (by 2030).. In their publication A Wake-up Call for the Church, Drs. Win and Carles Arn write that two-thirds of all those who have ever lived to age 65 are alive today.

  • Seniors retire earlier, with more financial security, than they did heretofore.
  • They are more mobile, educated, professional, technologically capable, and energetic than they were in the past.
  • At the same time, the percentage of seniors who may have attended church with their children, yet do not affirm a personal relationship with Christ increases with each generation.
